Boy oh boy, are you in for a treat today! We only recently discovered Shakshuka Eggs and they are our latest addiction. The recipe is tomato-based and involves baking the eggs in the sauce in the oven.
There are a number of versions that you can make and we include baked beans and mushrooms with ours. Today’s recipe is super simple and uses a few easy ingredients including salsa. The best part is that you can add whatever you like to this dish and it will be utterly delish!
Shakshuka Eggs Ingredients
- 4 Eggs
- 1 cup mild salsa (or to your taste)
- 1 cup (1 stalk) green onions
- Oil for spraying pan
Dave’s Kitchen Notes
Here are some of Dave’s suggestions for making this wonderful breakfast.He uses a mild salsa, but you can substitute medium or hot if you are so inclined.
The recipe uses very basic seasoning such as salt and pepper but other spices, like paprika, garlic, etc. can be used. Dave uses a sharp, old cheddar for his topping however any type of cheese can be used.
It is really important not to over bake the eggs as they become hard quite quickly. Dave suggests that 10 minutes in the oven at 400 F or 200 C is about perfect, but you can play around with the temperature and time.
